VM requirement checklist for DirectPath I/O Passthrough in vSphere environments

In certain instances and based on very specific requirements, you may want a VM to monopolize a specific physical card. To do this first you need to enable the card for DirectPath I/O Passthrough and then configuring the connection to the enabled card as virtual hardware on the VM. The requirements for the VM in regard to DirectPath I/O Passthrough are as follows:

• VM hardware must be v7 or later

• VM must be on a host with Intel VT or Directed I/O (VT-d) or AMD I/O Virtualization Technology (IOMMU) enabled.

• A VM cannot be directly connected to more than 8 devices at a time.

• PCI Devices must be connected to the host and marked for passthrough. You can explore the PCI devices connected to your host by clicking on the host, then on Manage, Settings, and PCI Devices
